Top Gun: Maverick Great movie, just too much plot armor. Top Gun (1986) was a phenomenal blockbuster, and the second one, 36 years later, is Top Gun Maverick (2022) in theaters now. There are a lot of advancements in technology in the second movie. The Computer Generated Imagery (CGI) made you feel you were really there, and it also made you feel like the actors were flying the jets themselves, because they were! Let me explain. This "Flying" was a combination of CGI and the actors actually flying the jets, because the movie crew couldn't go out to the Himalayas or the Arctic and start shooting footage of the actors flying around mountains in Super Hornets, so they picked Lake Oroville, Feather River Canyon and made the place look like it was snowing.
